The STORY

My first brand (Under Construction)

ModernMischief-Logo.png

LOGO

My Dad was in the Jewelry business for 30 years. From an early age I saw the hardships he had to go through to support our family. Naturally in my mind a Diamond and Crossbones appeared as a symbol of having to do anything it takes to get your Diamonds in life.

COLORS

Initially we wanted to shock people with bright bold colors. At the time it was considered risque for a brand to base their designs on boldness and brightness.

PRIMARY OUTLETS & ACHIEVEMENTS:

  • Myspace: 0 - 54,000 Fans

  • Facebook: 0 - 10,000 Fans

Tactical Summary:

Modern Mischief came out in 2002 when Social Media was still catching on. There might have actually been a Friendster profile for Modern Mischief. I used ads, posts contests, celebrities and influencers to drive attention to the brand. I would work all day promoting during USA time and late into a night until a broadened time for an overseas timescale. Sleep was very tricky.

Standard Posts:

My posting style was very organized and clean. I would try to post a mix of visual content, inspirations quotes and uplifting content that after trial and error I knew would keep fans engaged and interested.

Ads:

I used a good amount of Facebook advertisements to bring attention to the brand varying on the users location and likes. We also used Google Ads, but we learned that Facebook had a better return ratio.

Celebrities + Influencers:

We would work with celebrities and influencers for various trades. They would wear our product or simply post about us. Surprisingly many celebrities and influencers were already fans of the company and we would find them posting about us without any terms.

SPONSORED MUSICIANS

In trade for apparel a variety of musical acts and celebrities would promote Modern Mischief by wearing the clothes on stage, in photoshoots, in magazines, in music videos and other various musical outlets. If we were really lucky they would add us to their TOP 8 on Myspace.

SPONSORED LIST:

Tyga, The Pack, Soulja Boy, Lostprophets, The Blackout, Lil Debbie, Ivy Levan, Hanna Beth, The Devil Wears Prada, Boys Like Girls, Robby Starbuck, Catherine, Call The Cops, Luxxury, Any Day Now, White Nights, Novea Tears,

Contests:

Monthly contests were held to keep fans engaged and to draw in potential new customers. Contests varied for example we would ask fans to post a picture in their product and include a certain hashtag and a link to our site then we would chose our favorite and send them a prize.
